"¡Vamos
a quemar a estos demonios!" Opening Statement
I went to that church a few times and its extension
in East Los Angeles. The prayers were strong, my pockets empty, and my head
alert for paranormal activity. It had to be the worst days of my life since I
was there. I exaggerate when I think about all the times I was there. I can’t
count, maybe five or seven. It was not too long the memory. It only carried me
to college and back. It’s a big deal that I didn’t go many times; the
experience flourished and dwindled in my room for years. I wouldn’t go one more
time if I was being dragged by the devil him or herself. It’s a selfless act of
jibbery kindness, since I was literally jittery from the all too known accent
of pastoring. I found out that tickets to the kingdom of God were unlimited and
I couldn’t get one with my possession. If Noah’s ark was rainbowed on my waist,
my hip was hopping, laughter and nerves served me right, nothing was stopping
them from praising. I grew a third leg and eye one night. It kind of makes you
feel like exposing yourself to the all mighty one. The closest I got to was the
pastor, yes. It meant everything to him, but I felt prosecuted. Church is
court. I’m unattractive. One thing leads to another and I owe the old man a
hundred dollars, American bills, the ‘ol one mano a mano. It’s undeliverable! I
take the lids off constantly. I see I need to reconsider the quemando de demonios rituals practiced
in the large venue, since I felt visible; I’ve been close to the stage! Ladies growled
and screeched, turning their bodies angrily towards the microphone, the pastor
in awe, obreros (praying workers) reaching out to the possessed person’s head, did
make me feel proud, powerful, and emotional. When I was able to release into
the world through a God given mean of motivation that was dance, I think I fell
in love. There was however, a down side to it. I think there might have been
glimpses of the “stomping of demons” everywhere I walked. Godspeed propelled me
forward, I’m still sort of empty handed, but I’ve come to accept that it was
not helpful hope. Jeez, there must be
another way out. The demon hunt is violent, I am weak sauce. Should we all go?
Are we mentally prepared for it, Him? Jesus, you ask!!
